ZALESKI, HUGHES & MORAVIAN BASKETBALL SQUADS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s basketball teams have a players ranked in the top 30 nationally in the third release of the NCAA Division III basketball statistics for the 2002-03 season including games through January 19th. Both teams are also ranked in the top ten in the country in team categories.

For the men’s squad, sophomore forward Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) is tied for 20th in the nation in free throw percentage at 88.2 percent (45 of 51).

The Greyhounds, who are 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference on the season, are ranked third in the country in free throw percentage at 78.9 percent to begin the week. Moravian, which was the nation’s leader in free throw percentage last season, has improved that number to 79.2 percent this week.

Ranked from the women’s team is junior guard Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS), who is 24th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 44.2 percent (30 of 68).

Moravian, which is 11-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Commonwealth Conference, is sixth in the county in scoring offense, averaging 79.8 points per game.

The Moravian women will be in action on Thursday, January 23rd as they host Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. The men’s squad will return to action on Wednesday, January 22nd in a Commonwealth Conference game versus Widener University beginning at 8:00 p.m.
