FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) from the women’s indoor track & field team, freshman Stephanie Seaman (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) of the women’s basketball squad and seniors Matt Bowers (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona HS) and junior Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/ Newton HS) from the men’s indoor track & field team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Rotzell, a jumper and sprinter, had a pair of top five finishes to pace Moravian at the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University. Rotzell placed third in the triple jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 11.52 meters (37 feet, 9 1/2 inches), and she was fourth in the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying leap of 5.63 meters (18 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Rotzell also ran a time of 27.04 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Moravian will return to action this Friday, February 21st at the Haverford Invitational, the team’s final tune-up before the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 1st.

Seaman, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week while averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Seaman started the week with 11 points and eight rebounds in Moravian’s 63-57 victory at Elizabethtown College. Seaman added ten points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals while playing 35 minutes in the Greyhounds’ 69-62 victory at Widener University that clinched the team’s second straight playoff berth. For the week, Seaman shot 50 percent (9 of 18) from the floor and 100 percent (3 of 3) at the foul line while playing 28 minutes per game. Moravian is 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, February 19th when they host Susquehanna University in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Bowers, a thrower, and Moore, a jumper and sprinter, set school records in their respective events to lead the Greyhounds at the Robert J. Kane Invitational. Bowers set the school standard in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 15.25 meters (50 feet, 1/2 inch) for a sixth place finish. He bettered his own school record set back in December by two feet, two inches. Moore broke his own school record in the long jump with an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying leap of 7.38 meters (24 feet 2 1/2 inches) to place third in the event. Moore's jump was eight and a half inches longer than the record he set just one week ago. Moore also ran a 7.84-second race in the 60-meter dash. Moravian will return to action this Friday, February 21st at the Haverford Invitational, the team’s final tune-up before the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 1st.
