TRIO NAMED MORAVIAN COLLEGE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) and Kim
Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name HS) from the women’s volleyball team and
senior Sean McDonnell (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep HS) of the men’s
cross country team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week
for their performances last week.
Lawrence and Zipf led the Greyhound volleyball squad
to a 4-0 record and the championship of the First Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational. Lawrence averaged
11.5 assists, 3.33 digs, 1.00 kills, 0.50 service aces and 0.17 blocks and had a .423 hitting
percentage in 12 games as Moravian won each match by a score of 3-0. Zipf contributed
4.00 kills, 2.33 digs, 0.67 service aces and 0.42 blocks per game with a .287 hitting percentage. Zipf also
earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday,
September 5th in the first day of the 2003 Gettysburg Battlefield Classic.
McDonnell led the Greyhounds to a third place finish of the eight schools
competing at the Marywood University Invitational to open the 2003 season. The Greyhounds
had a team score of 68 points, just one point behind second place Muhlenberg College. The
University of Scranton won the meet with a total of 38 points. McDonnell led
the Greyhounds on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 28:20, good enough for tenth place
in the 83-competitor race. Moravian will be back in action on Friday, September 5th in
the 2003 Lehigh Valley Championships at Lehigh University.
