THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED MORAVIAN COLLEGE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE
WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) from
the women’s volleyball team and seniors David Darmofal (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington
Heights HS) and Nate Pogue (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) of the
football squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their
performances last week.
Lawrence helped the Greyhounds to a 3-1 record at the Gettysburg Battlefield
Classic last weekend. Lawrence, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament
Team, averaged 8.75 assists, 4.08 digs, 0.75 kills, 0.58 service aces and 0.33 blocks with
a .312 hitting percentage during the 12 games she played. Lawrence had
36 assists, 22 digs and three blocks in Moravian’s 3-1 loss to Eastern University,
the team’s first loss of the year. The Greyhounds are 7-1 on the season and will
return to action on Wednesday, September 10th in a non-conference match at the University
of Scranton beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Darmofal and Pogue helped the Greyhounds earn a 16-8
victory over FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference action to open the 2003 season. Darmofal ran
for 96 yards on 23 carries to go over the 1,000-yard mark for his career. Darmofal’s first
run of the year went for 25 yards to give him an even 1,000 yards for his career. He now
has 1,071 yards. Pogue was named to the MAC Weekly Honor Roll after making
two interceptions, which he returned for a total of 39 yards, one additional pass break-up
and a tackle in the victory. The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, September
13th when they host Juniata College in a 1:00 p.m. MAC game.
