FIVE GREYHOUNDS HONORED AS MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore Megan Collins (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) of the women’s soccer team, sophomore Lindsey Siracusa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury HS) and junior Christina Wallace (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) from the women’s volleyball squad and junior Ryan Rick (Hamburg, PA/Fleetwood HS) and senior Vinny Nasuta (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional HS) of the men’s soccer team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Collins, a forward, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-0-1 record last week as Moravian closed out the regular season with a 10-2-4 mark and a 5-1-1 slate in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian began with week with a 0-0 tie against rival Muhlenberg College. Collins then netted a goal and an assist in the Greyhounds’ 2-0 victory at Juniata College to close out the 2003 regular season. The goal was Collins’ team-leading tenth of the season, tied for the fifth most goals in a single season in Moravian history. The Greyhounds are 10-2-4 this season and the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals on Tuesday, November 4th, playing at second seeded Lebanon Valley College at 2:30 p.m.

Siracusa, a middle hitter, led Moravian to its eighth straight postseason berth, a 5-0 record and the championships at the Bridgewater State (MA) College Halloween Classic while averaging 3.71 kills and 1.24 blocks per game with a .303 hitting percentage. Siracusa opened the week with 12 kills, three service aces and five blocks in Moravian’s 3-1 Commonwealth Conference victory versus Messiah College to clinch the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs. Siracusa, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Bridgewater State tournament, had ten kills, three digs and a block in a 3-0 victory versus the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Siracusa added 14 kills, three blocks and a service ace in a 3-0 sweep of Colby-Sawyer College, and she had ten kills, four blocks and a service ace in a second sweep of Colby-Sawyer. Siracusa finished the tournament with 17 kills and six blocks against host Bridgewater State.

Wallace, an outside hitter, had nine kills, 17 digs and seven service aces in the match against Messiah. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Bridgewater Halloween Classic. Wallace began the tournament with seven kills and seven digs in the victory against UMass-Dartmouth. Wallace had 16 kills and eight digs in the first victory against Colby-Sawyer, and she added ten kills, and four digs in the second win. Wallace finished the tournament with 16 kills, 11 digs and four blocks versus host Bridgewater State. Moravian is 25-8 overall and will be the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs, traveling to second seed Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m.

Fick, a midfielder, and Nasuta, a goalkeeper, led Moravian to a 2-0 record last week and the team’s fourth straight berth in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs. Fick tallied his first two goals of the season in a 3-0 victory versus Albright College while Nasuta made six saves for his third shutout of the year. Fick added the game-winning goal in the Greyhounds’ 3-1 victory at Juniata College, which clinched the third seed in the playoffs for Moravian, while Nasuta had three saves. The Greyhounds are 4-11-3 overall and will be the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals on Wednesday, November 5th. Moravian will travel to second seeded Elizabethtown College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
