MORAVIAN’S BREY & ROTZELL EARN LVAIAW HONORS

EASTON, PA --- Moravian College senior Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and junior Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) have been named the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Player of the Year in their respective sports.

The duo was honored at the annual LVAIAW Banquet hosted by Lafayette College Thursday. Brey earned her honor on the softball field while Rotzell was honored for the field events.

Brey, who has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Team for the third consecutive year, has helped the Greyhounds to a 34-4 record and the #1 ranking in the nation for a month during the season. She was a First Team All-Region player in 2002 and on the Second Team last season. Brey currently holds 14 Moravian game, season and career records and ranks in the top five of the career offensive categories she doesn’t own the record. Brey is hitting .408 this season with 49 hits, 42 RBIs, 32 runs scored, 12 walks, 13 doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Moravian is the top seed in the 2004 NCAA Division III Regional at Ramapo College of New Jersey this weekend, which begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7th.

Rotzell won three Middle Atlantic Conference championships in field events this season. She won both the long jump and triple jump indoors and then captured the triple jump outdoors and placed second in the long jump last weekend. Rotzell also competed at the 2004 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, placing ninth in the long jump and 13th in the triple jump. Rotzell also competes in the sprint events, placing 2nd in the MAC and 14th at the NCAA indoor meets in the 55-meter hurdles. She was also seventh in the 200-meters indoors at the MAC championship and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the outdoor meet. Rotzell also ran on Moravian’s winning 4x100-meter relay squad last weekend.
