TOMASZEWSKI, TURTELL & YOUNG NAMED COMMONWEALTH ALL-CONFERENCE
BASEBALL FIRST TEAM
ANNVILLE, PA --- Junior pitcher Steve Tomaszewski (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic
HS) and seniors utility infielder Matthew Turtell (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst
HS) and designated hitter Michael Young (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton HS) of
the Moravian College baseball team have been named to the Commonwealth All-Conference
First Team announced Wednesday.
The trio helped the Greyhounds reach the conference championship game for the first team
since 1985 as Moravian finished the 2004 season with a 15-22 overall record after falling
to Juniata College in the championship game of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament last
weekend.
Tomaszewski posted a 5-3 record on the mound for Moravian with a 2.30
earned run average and 43 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings of action. He had six complete games
this season with two shutouts. Tomaszewski, who was named to the Commonwealth
All-Conference Second Team last spring, also had nine hits, ten runs, eight RBIs, two doubles,
23 putouts and 15 assists in limited action as an outfielder.
Turtell, who saw action at both second base and shortstop, led Moravian
with a .355 average this season, and he tied the single season record with 43 hits this
season. Turtell added 31 runs, 16 walks, 15 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, six
doubles, a triple and a home run. He added 60 putouts and a school record 107 assists in
the field this season.
Young¸ who also saw limited action as a catcher, had his best
season for the Greyhounds, hitting .351 with 34 his. Young added 21 RBIs,
17 walks, eight runs, seven doubles, a triple, 71 putouts and eight assists this spring.
