MORAVIAN HONORS SENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES;
BREY & MOORE NAMED SENIOR ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College honored its 2004 senior student-athletes at its annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet Wednesday night in Johnston Hall. Softball standout Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while track & field competitor Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete award. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athletes awards were presented to women’s soccer player Justina Bria (Warminster, PA/William Tennent HS) and baseball athlete Ethan Ordog (Roebling, NJ/Holy Cross HS). The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian’s athletics program was presented to Fritz Halfacre.

Brey, a third baseman, has helped the Greyhounds to a 37-4 record this season and the team’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III World Series that begins on Friday. Brey was named to Commonwealth All-Conference First Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region First Team this spring. Brey has continued to rewrite the Moravian record books this spring and currently holds 16 Moravian game, season and career records while ranking in the top five of the career offensive categories she doesn’t own the record. Brey is hitting .398 this season with 51 hits, 45 RBIs, 33 runs scored, 12 walks, 13 doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Brey has also set the school record with 100 assists in the field this season.

Moore, a sprinter and jumper, helped the Moravian men place fifth at the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships and sixth in the 2004 MAC Outdoor title. He won the 2004 MAC title in the long jump at both the indoor and outdoor championship meets. Moore, who won the 2003 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in the long jump, also ran on Moravian’s first place 4x100-meter relay at the MAC outdoor championships. Moore finished second in the 200 meters outdoors and fifth at the indoor meet. He has provisionally qualified for the 2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at Millikin University on May 27th-29th.

Bria helped the women’s soccer post a 12-4-4 record and reach the 2003 Commonwealth Conference Tournament and the championship game of the 2003 Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Tournament. Bria contributed three goals and two assists for eight points. Bria was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team and the MAC All-Academic Team for the third straight year. Bria, who was a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division Second Team, has a 3.68 grade point average, and she is majoring in psychology and sociology.

Ordog, an outfielder, was a key part of Moravian’s run to the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Championship game. Ordog had 17 hits, 11 RBIs, 13 walks, seven runs and three doubles for the 15-22 Greyhounds. Ordog has a 3.56 grade point average, and he is majoring in political science and religion.

Halfacre has made many contributions to the Moravian Athletic Department including serving an assistant football and track and field coach. Halfacre has also helped many student-athletes decide to attend Moravian.
