HUGHES & ZALESKI NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS) of the
women’s basketball team and junior Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown
HS) from the men’s basketball squad have been named the Moravian College
Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Hughes, a guard, netted a career high 30 points in Moravian’s
only game last week, leading the Greyhounds to a 78-66 over previously undefeated Drew
University. Hughes shot over 50 percent from the floor, making seven of
13 field goal attempts, including four three-pointers, and she was perfect from the foul
line at 12 of 12, tying the Moravian College individual game record. The Moravian women
head to the semester break with a record of 5-2. The Greyhounds will return to action on
Sunday, January 4th against the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas.
Zaleski, a forward, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1 record last week,
averaging 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Zaleski scored a game-high
24 points in Moravian’s 78-61 victory at Drew University, and he added 23 points
in a 79-72 loss at Kean (NJ) University. Zaleski shot 63 percent for the
week, making 17 of 27 field goal attempts, including two of three three-pointers, and he
made 84.6 percent of his free throws, connecting on 11 of 13 foul shots. Zaleski also
added five assists and seven steals during the week. The Moravian men head to the semester
break with a 4-4 overall record. The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, January 6th
when they host Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game at Johnston Hall beginning
at 7:00 p.m.
