TRIO HONORED AS MORAVIAN COLLEGE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Freshman Rachel Berlin (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) of
the women’s basketball team, junior Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) from
the women’s indoor track & field squad and sophomore Zach Zsilavecz (Bethlehem,
PA/Liberty HS) of the men’s basketball team have been named the Moravian
College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Berlin, a guard, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1 mark last week, including
an 82-77 victory at Juniata College in Commonwealth Conference action. Berlin began
the week with six points, five rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocked shots in Moravian’s
64-52 loss to Widener University. Berlin then scored a team high 17 points
with three rebounds in the Greyhounds’ victory at Juniata. For the week, Berlin connected
on seven of 14 field goals (50 percent) while making two of five three-pointers (40 percent).
She also hit on seven of ten free throw attempts (70 percent) while averaging 25.5 minutes
per game off the bench. The Greyhounds are 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the Commonwealth Conference
this season. Moravian will return to action on Wednesday, February 11th when the team hosts
Lebanon Valley College in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Rotzell, a sprinter and jumper, placed second in the finals of the 55-meter
hurdles in an NCAA Division provisional qualifying time of 8.532 seconds to lead Moravian
at the non-scoring Fifth Annual Dick DeShriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg
University of Pennsylvania. Rotzell won her heat in the preliminaries
in 8.616 seconds, and she posted a preliminary time of 7.569 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Rotzell had
a time of 27.327 in the 200-meter dash to take second in her heat. The Greyhound indoor
track & field teams will return to action on Saturday, February 14th in the Bucknell
University Invitational.
Zsilavecz, a forward, helped Moravian to a 1-1 record last week in Commonwealth
Conference action including the Greyhounds’ 105-93, triple overtime victory at Juniata
College. Zsilavecz began the week with ten points and four rebounds off
the bench in Moravian’s 84-69 loss to Widener University. Zsilavecz then
scored a career high 26 points and added five rebounds in the win at Juniata. In the contest, Zsilavecz was
12 for 12 from the foul line and seven for ten from the floor. For the week, Zsilavecz connected
on 11 of 16 field goals (68.6 percent) and 14 of 16 free throws (87.5 percent) while averaging
18.0 points per game as a reserve. The Greyhounds are 10-11 overall and 2-8 in the Commonwealth
Conference this season. Moravian will return to action on Tuesday, February 10th when the
team hosts Lebanon Valley College in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 8:00 p.m.
