TRIO NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Jen Behagg (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) from
the women’s basketball team, junior Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) of
the women’s indoor track & field squad and sophomore Michael El Kazzaz
(Easton, PA/Easton HS) from the men’s indoor track & field team have
been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last
week.
Behagg, a guard, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1 mark last week, including
a 67-53 victory over Lebanon Valley College to pull into a tie for second place in the
Commonwealth Conference. Behagg had ten points, three rebounds, three
steals and a pair of assists in Moravian’s win versus Lebanon Valley. Behagg led
the Greyhounds in scoring in the squad’s 68-59 loss at nationally-ranked Messiah
College with a career best 15 points. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and two
steals for the week. Behagg was nine of 15 (60 percent) from the field
during the week while making six of seven (85.7 percent) free throws. She also played an
average of 33.5 minutes per game. Moravian is 15-8 overall and 8-4 in Commonwealth Conference
action. The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, February 17th in a Commonwealth contest
versus Albright College at 6:00 p.m.
Rotzell provisionally qualified for the 2004 NCAA Division III National
Championships in the triple jump and long jump as the only Greyhound competing at the Robert
J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University. Rotzell placed sixth
in the triple jump with a distance of 11.37 meters (37 feet, 3 3/4 inches), and she took
seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11 3/4 inches).
El Kazzaz captured first place in the pole vault to lead Moravian at
the non-scoring Bucknell University Winter Classic. El Kazzaz cleared
a height of 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches) to win the event. The Moravian indoor track
and field teams will compete in the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Susquehanna
University on Saturday, February 28th.
