NINE GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC
SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Nine members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named
to the 2003 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad
announced Tuesday by the NFHCA.
Moravian was also one of 68 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named
an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0
or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Commonwealth Conference rivals Elizabethtown
College, Juniata College and Susquehanna University and local rival Muhlenberg College.
Junior Kelly Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS), sophomores Stephanie
Beitler (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh HS) and Jill Brinckman
(East Greenville, PA/ Upper Perkiomen HS) and freshmen Jenna Abramson
(Bangor, PA/Bangor HS), Katie Custer (Pottstown, PA/St. Pius X HS), Rebecca
DeJulio (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart HS), Elyse Jurgen (York, PA/Red Lion
HS), Alyse Moyer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) and Caitlin
Tozer (Norwood, PA/Friends Central HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad
which included over 700 NCAA Division III players from 113 teams. To be named to the
NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point
average through the first semester of the 2003-04 academic year.
The group helped the Greyhounds post a 4-14 record in 2003 including a 1-6 mark in the
Commonwealth Conference. Beitler was Moravian’s leading scorer with four goals and
two assists for ten points while Jurgen contributed two goals and two assists for six points.
Boone had four points on a goal and two assists while Moyer tallied one goal. Brinckman
started all 18 matches for the Greyhounds while Abramson played in all 18 contests.
