GREYHOUNDS SELECTED SEVENTH IN MAC PRESEASON FOOTBALL POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College football team has been selected to finish seventh and Lycoming College was picked to win the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship based on a poll of the conference head coaches.

Lycoming, the defending MAC Champion, received six of a possible 11 first-place votes, and the Warriors, who are looking for their 30th consecutive winning season, had a total of 96 points. Wilkes University, which returns 16 starters from the ECAC Southwest Region runner-up, received five first place votes and was second overall with 95 points.

Delaware Valley College and Widener University were selected third and fourth, respectively. The Aggies received 74 points while the Pioneers had 66 points. Delaware Valley won the ECAC Southeast Region last fall to cap the fifth-best single season improvement in NCAA history. King’s College and Albright College were fifth and sixth with the Monarchs receiving 65 points and the Lions earning 58 points.

The Greyhounds earned 51 points for their seventh place finish, the same spot Moravian was in last year’s preseason poll when the Greyhounds posted a 3-7 overall record and a 3-6 slate in MAC action. The Greyhounds return 17 starters this season, and head coach Scot Dapp looks to rely on several returning players to lead the squad. Coach Dapp has last year’s MAC Rookie of the Year returning as sophomore running back Chris Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) comes back to Moravian after setting a single season record with 1,051 yards last season. Senior defensive lineman Kevin McLaughlin (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic HS) will anchor the defense after being named to the All-MAC Second Team last fall.

Susquehanna University was picked eighth in the poll with 43 points while FDU-Florham was ninth with 21 points. Rounding out the poll were Juniata College in tenth place with 20 points and Lebanon Valley College with 19 points.

Moravian is slated to begin the 2004 MAC season on Saturday, September 11th at Juniata in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
