MORAVIAN MEN’S LACROSSE TEAM PICKED 11TH IN MIDDLE ATLANTIC
CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College men’s lacrosse team has been picked to finish
11th in the Middle Atlantic Conference in a preseason poll of the conference’s coaches
released Wednesday.
The Greyhounds received 12 points. Messiah College was selected first with 98 points
and received eight first-place votes while FDU-Florham was picked second with 90 points
and two first-place votes. Widener University received the final first-place vote and was
third with 83 points. The remainder of the poll included Elizabethtown College, Lycoming
College, Drew University, Susquehanna University, King’s College, the University
of Scranton, DeSales University and Moravian.
Moravian looks to continue to build the program in just its second year as a varsity
sport in 2005. The Greyhounds return 12 letterwinners and nine starters from last year’s
inaugural team that was 3-13 overall. Head coach Fran Meagher expects
the team to be even more competitive and improve.
Sophomore attack Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) will
lead Moravian on the offensive end of the field after leading the Greyhounds in assists
and points with 54 and 81, respectively to go along with 27 goals last year. Through most
of the 2004 season, Quedenfeld was ranked in the top five in the nation
in assists and points per game.
Leading the team in goals last spring was sophomore attack Daniel Larson (Dover,
DE/Dover HS) with 38 to go along with six assists for 44 points while classmate
midfielder T.J. Hirsch (Lake Peekskill, NY/Walter Panas HS) added 21
goals and 11 assists for 32 points. Hirsch also had team highs of 117
face-offs won and six man-up goals while Larson won 37 face-offs. Sophomore
attack Nick Cacciutti (Media, PA/Haverford School) contributed 23 goals
and two assists for 25 points, and he scored four man-up goals.
Sophomore attack Jay Dantinne (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor HS) added
16 goals and four assists for 20 points while classmate midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle
Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic HS) had three goals and four points for seven points
and 33 face-off wins before ending his season early due to an injury. Sophomore midfielder Tristan
Flis (Harleysville, PA/North Penn HS) contributed four goals and one assist, while
classmate midfielder A.J. Herold (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) added
three goals and one assist for the Hounds.
Junior defender Greg Hawzen (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) had 51
ground balls, while classmate defender Rocco DiPoalo (Keyport, NJ/Academy of Marine
Science) had 37 ground balls. Sophomore defender Tim Guider (Shoreham,
NY/Shoreham-Wading River HS) had 19 ground balls. Junior midfielder Peter
Coldwell (Bound Brook, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan HS) added eight ground balls for
the Greyhounds.
Moravian will look to freshmen Peter Coutros (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West
HS), Keith Paradiso (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS) and
Peter Scheneman (Carlisel, PA/Carlisle HS) in goal this season.
The Greyhounds will begin their 2005 season on Saturday, February 26th in a non-conference
game at Wesley College in Delaware beginning at 2:00 p.m.
