NINE GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC
SQUAD; MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Nine members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named
to the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad
announced in early March by the NFHCA.
Moravian was also one of 87 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named
an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0
or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Commonwealth Conference rivals Juniata
College, Lebanon Valley College, Messiah College and Susquehanna University and local rival
Muhlenberg College.
Senior Kelly Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS), junior Jill
Brinckman (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen HS), sophomores Jenna
Abramson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS), Katie Custer (Pottstown, PA/St. Pius
X HS), Elyse Jurgen (York, PA/Red Lion HS) and Alyse
Moyer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) and freshmen Jayme Baker (Center Valley,
PA/Southern Lehigh HS), Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken
HS) and Taranae Hashemi (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) represented
the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 890 NCAA Division III players from 108
teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain
at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2004-05 academic
year.
The group helped the Greyhounds post a 10-8 record, which tied the school record for
wins, in 2004 including a 2-5 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. Jurgen contributed
six goals and an assist for 13 points while Boone had four goals and an
assist for nine points. Baker contributed a goal and two assists for four
points while Moyer and Abramson each had one assist. Brinckman started
all 18 matches for the Greyhounds on defense with eight defensive saves while Hashemi started
17 matches and had one defensive save.
