MORAVIAN’S HOMA & HENNESSY NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE, PA --- Sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks
West HS) and junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township
HS) of the Moravian College softball team have been named Commonwealth Conference
Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
The duo led the Greyhounds to a 4-0 record in non-conference action and helped the team
extend its winning streak to six games. Moravian, ranked second in the nation in the 2005
National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Preseason Top 25 Poll, is now 12-3
on the year.
Homa hit .600 (six for 10) with a double, a triple and two home runs
to go with her 11 RBIs. Homa also scored six runs, accounting for over
half of Moravian’s offense for the week. She added a 1.500 slugging percentage and
had 16 putouts in 16 chances in the field. Homa began the week with a
1-for-2 performance including an RBI and a run in an 8-0 victory over Muhlenberg College.
In the second game of the doubleheader, a 6-2 Moravian win, Homa was 2-for-3
with two RBIs, a triple and two runs. Homa opened a non-conference doubleheader
with FDU-Florham going 2-for-3 with five RBIs, a double, a three-run home run and two runs
in a 9-0 victory. She finished the week with a three-run homer as her only in the second
game of the doubleheader, a 5-4 win.
Hennessy tossed her second career no-hitter and her first of the season
while posting a 3-0 record with a save and two shutouts last week. Hennessy had
a 0.40 ERA last week, allowing just two runs, only one earned, on seven hits and six walks
while striking out 22 batters in 17 ½ innings. She now has 24 career shutouts, breaking Amy
Croll’s record set between 1994 and 1997. Hennessy started
the week with a no-hitter of rival Muhlenberg College that included eight strikeouts. Hennessy closed
out the doubleheader sweep with a victory in the second game. Hennessy allowed
just one hit, her fourth one-hitter of the year, in a victory over FDU-Florham that included
nine strikeouts. Hennessy then came on to get the final out in the second
game earning her second save of the season. Hennessy also had two putouts
and eight assists in ten chances in the field last week
Moravian is slated to return to action on Tuesday, March 29th in a non-conference doubleheader
at Wilkes University in Kingston, Pennsylvania beginning at 2:30 p.m.
