MORAVIAN’S HENNESSY NAMED ECAC DIVISION III SOUTHERN
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CAPE COD, MA --- Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township
HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named Eastern College Athletic
Conference Division III Southern Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.
Hennessy led the Greyhounds to a 4-0 record in non-conference action
and helped the team extend its winning streak to six games. Moravian, ranked second in
the nation in the 2005 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Preseason Top
25 Poll, is now 14-3 on the year.
Hennessy tossed her second career no-hitter and her first of the season
while posting a 3-0 record with a save and two shutouts last week. Hennessy had
a 0.40 ERA last week, allowing just two runs, only one earned, on seven hits and six walks
while striking out 22 batters in 17 ½ innings. She now has 24 career shutouts, breaking Amy
Croll’s record set between 1994 and 1997. Hennessy started
the week with an 8-0, five-inning no-hitter of rival Muhlenberg College that included eight
strikeouts. Hennessy closed out the doubleheader sweep with a victory
in the second game, a 6-2 Moravian win. Hennessy allowed just one hit,
her fourth one-hitter of the year, in a 9-0 victory over FDU-Florham that included nine
strikeouts. Hennessy then came on to get the final out in the second game
earning her second save of the season in a 5-4 victory. Hennessy also
had two putouts and eight assists in ten chances in the field last week
Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, April 2nd in a Commonwealth Conference
doubleheader versus Elizabethtown College beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.
