MORAVIAN MEN’S SOCCER SELECTED FIFTH IN COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE COACHES PRESEASON POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the conference head coaches.

The Greyhounds received 25 points. Messiah College, which has won eight consecutive Commonwealth championships, was selected first with 49 points and garnered seven first-place votes while Elizabethtown College was picked second with 42 points and had one first place vote. Susquehanna University was selected third with 38 points while Lebanon Valley College was fourth with 26 points followed by Widener University in sixth place with 24 points, Juniata College with 12 points and Albright College with eight points.

Moravian has high expectations for the 2005 season with the return on 17 letterwinnners from last year’s 8-8-1 squad. Head coach Eric Lambinus has just three starters returning, however, 11 of the returning players saw action in at least ten matches.

The Greyhounds leading returning scorer is junior forward Neil Untenahrer (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain HS). Untenahrer, who was tied for second on the team in points last season, had three goals and two assists for eight points last fall after netting a team high six goals as a freshman.

The Greyhounds will open their 2005 campaign on Thursday, September 1st in a non-conference match versus Lincoln (PA) University at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
