MORAVIAN FIELD HOCKEY PICKED SEVENTH IN COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE COACHES PRESEASON POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College field hockey team has been selected to finish seventh in the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the conference head coaches.

The Greyhounds received 13 points in the poll. Messiah College, which won the Commonwealth Championship a year ago, received four first place votes for 45 points and was tied with Lebanon Valley College, which received three first place votes and 45 points. Juniata College was selected to finish third with 39 points and the remaining first place vote. Susquehanna University was fourth with 30 points while Widener University was fifth with 25 points, Elizabethtown College was sixth with 19 points and Albright College followed Moravian in eighth place with eight points.

Moravian looks to continue on the improvements the squad made a year ago when the Greyhounds tied the school record with ten victories. Head coach Amy Endler returns seven starters and 13 letterwinners from last season’s 10-8 team.

Moravian returns its top three scorers from last year led by senior forward Stacee Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS). Cupples found the back of the cage 16 times last fall, and she added 11 assists for 43 points.

The Greyhounds will open their 2005 campaign on Saturday, September 3rd in a non-conference match at Kean University of New Jersey beginning at 11:00 a.m.
