MORAVIAN’S MATT SHERIDAN NAMED TO D3FOOTBALL.COM TEAM OF
THE WEEK
STERLING, VA--- Sophomore defensive back Matt Sheridan (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling
HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named to the D3football.com
Team of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds’ 29-18 victory over King’s
College last Saturday.
Sheridan, who was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams
Player of the Week, tied an NCAA Division III record by blocking three
punts in Moravian’s victory at King’s. Sheridan, who was also
named Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southeast Honorable Mention, blocked
the Monarchs’ first, fourth and seventh punts of the game. All three punts were blocked
inside the King’s 30-yard line and two were inside the 15-yard line. Sheridan is
the sixth player in NCAA history to block three punts in a game and the first since 2002
when Don Rodgers of Sewanee; University of the South accomplished the feat. Sheridan was
credited with two punt returns for nine yards on the two blocks that were recovered behind
the line of scrimmage, and two of the punts led to Moravian touchdowns in the victory.
Sheridan was one of five nominees with the other four from NCAA Division
I schools. Voting began Sunday night and ran through noon on Tuesday. On-line readers'
votes counted for one-third of the total. Sheridan finished second in
the on-line voting with 11 percent or 1,295 of the 11,781 ballots cast. Texas A&M University
quarterback Reggie McNeal won the award with 74% of the on-line vote and one of the other
two votes.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 24th in an MAC
game versus Juniata College kicking off at 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.
