MORAVIAN’S NICOLE GRUBER NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE WOMEN’S
TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior Nicole Gruber (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon HS) of the
Moravian College women’s tennis team has been named the Commonwealth Conference Women’s
Tennis Player of the Week for her performance last week.
Gruber was 3-1 last week in two singles and two doubles matches. In
Moravian’s 7-2 victory over DeSales University, the Bulldogs’ first loss of
the season, Gruber suffered a three set , 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) loss in
second singles action although she did help Moravian win a point with an 8-3 win at second
doubles with partner sophomore Leah Bradshaw (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS).
Gruber then helped the Greyhounds clinch the top seed in the 2005 Commonwealth
Conference Tournament with a pair of victories in a 7-2 win at Susquehanna University.
She had an 8-6 win with Bradshaw in doubles action, and Gruber earned
a three-set victory, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in singles action.
Moravian, which will be participating in the postseason for the 12th consecutive year,
will host either Lebanon Valley College or Messiah College on Wednesday, October 12th in
a Commonwealth Conference Semifinal at 2:30 p.m.
