LAST TIME THEY MET: In Williamsport last fall, junior tailback Chris
Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns
on 35 carries and senior quarterback Jerry Venturino (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong

to a 35-14 victory over Lycoming College in MAC action. The win improved the Greyhounds
to 7-0 overall for the first time in school history. The Greyhounds would get possession
for the first time in the game after an interception by senior cornerback Tyler
Chomik (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) at the Lycoming 34-yard
line, which Chomik returned to the 27-yard line. The interception was
Chomik’s fourth of the season. After Jacoubs was stopped for a two-yard loss and
no gain, Venturino hit junior wide receiver Shawn Martell (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) with a 27-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Ken
Macaulay added the extra-point for a 7-0 just 2:18 into the game. Martell had
four receptions for 87 yards. Lycoming would answer on the ensuing drive to tie the contest
at 7-7 with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter. Lycoming had to punt on the first play
of the second quarter, and Chomik set the Greyhounds up at the Lycoming 35-yard line
with a 29-yard punt return. On fourth-and-five from the 30-yard line, Venturino ran a
quarterback draw to the nine-yard line for a first-and-goal. Venturino finished off the
drive with a nine-yard scamper off the left side. Macaulay was wide left with the extra-point,
giving Moravian a 13-7 lead with 11:49 remaining in the second quarter. Lycoming would
gain possession in good field position on an interception, however, Chomik would
come up with his second interception of the game and fifth of the season at the Moravian
four-yard line. Moravian would be forced to punt after three plays. The Greyhounds would
extend their lead to 21-7 with 8:43 remaining in the third quarter. Moravian started
the drive on the Lycoming 28-yard line after linebacker Bill Carasia recovered
a fumble. Jacoubs finished off the drive with a ten-yard run. Venturino hit
sophomore tight end Kris Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) with the two-point
conversion pass. The touchdown was Jacoubs’ 12th rushing score
of the season and 14th overall touchdown of the year to break the Moravian single season
record for points with 84. Moravian would score again with 8:50 remaining in the fourth
quarter when Venturino found senior wide receiver Russ Demko (Hellertown, PA/Saucon
Valley HS) with a 41-yard touchdown strike, three plays after the Greyhound
defense had forced Lycoming to turn the ball over on downs. Macaulay added the extra-point
for a 28-7 lead. Demko caught two passes for 57 yards, and the touchdown
reception was the first of his collegiate career. Lycoming would come back on the first
play of the ensuing drive on a 65-yard touchdown pass and run to pull the Warriors within
28-14 with 8:35 remaining in the game. Greyhound wide receiver Jed Warsager had
a 55-yard kickoff return on the ensuing kickoff to the Lycoming 33-yard line and a 15-yard
penalty on the Warriors gave Moravian the ball at the Lycoming 18-yard line. Jacoubs scored
from 16 yards out off the left side on the second play, and the carry pushed Jacoubs over
100 yards for the ninth time in his Moravian career in 13 career starts. Macaulay added
the extra-point for a 35-14 lead with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter. Moravian held
the ball for 33:38 in the game and ran 71 plays for 362 yards in the game. Venturino also

LAST WEEK: Moravian put together a second half rally but was unable to
pull out a Homecoming victory in a 27-17 loss to Wilkes University in an MAC contest at
Rocco Calvo Field. The game was played in a light rain and without an operating scoreboard.
Moravian took the opening kickoff and returned it to midfield, after driving down to the
Wilkes 39-yard line, the Greyhounds were forced the punt. The snap went over senior punter Corey
Czerniak’s (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) head, similar to a play the last time
the two teams met in Bethlehem that allowed Moravian to rally and win the game in 2003. Czerniak fell
on the ball back at the Moravian 35-yard line. The Greyhound defense held and forced a
short punt. On a third-and-seven play on the ensuing drive, Moravian senior quarterback
Jerry Venturino had a pass tipped and intercepted. Two plays later, Wilkes scored to give
the Colonels the 7-0 lead with 8:42 remaining in the first quarter. Moravian would be forced
to punt again on its next drive after picking up one first down. The Greyhounds would stop
Wilkes’ next possession after five plays when junior cornerback Israel Aguila
(Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) intercepted a pass on the Moravian11-yard line. However,
Moravian was unable to move the ball and punted again on the final play of the first quarter.
Wilkes would run eight plays to go 47 yards and extend their lead on another short run.
The extra-point was never attempted because of a bad snap, leaving the score at 13-0 Wilkes
with 11:04 remaining in the second quarter. The next three drives all ended in punts with
two by the Greyhounds, the second of which pinned Wilkes on its own two-yard line. The
Colonels would drive the entire length of the field in eight plays to score the third touchdown
of the first half with just 29 seconds left before the intermission. The Colonels held
a 20-0 halftime lead. After halftime, Wilkes received the opening kickoff. The Greyhound
defense limited the Colonels to minus-one yard on three plays and forced a punt. Moravian
began its first drive of the second half from its own 40-yard line. The Greyhounds drove
down to the Wilkes 15-yard line on six rushing plays including a 22-yard gain by senior
fullback Kevin Lukich (Ogdensburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley HS) and a total
of 22 yards on two carries by junior running back Chris Jacoubs. Moravian
settled on a 32-yard field goal by freshman kicker Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg,
NJ/Somerville HS), his fifth field goal of the season, to put the Greyhounds on
the board and cut the Wilkes lead to 20-3 with 9:09 remaining in the third quarter. Jacoubs was
limited 76 yards on 24 carries while Lukich had 30 yards on five attempts. Jacoubs did
move past 700 career rushing attempts in the game. Wilkes was forced into its second straight
three-and-out on the following drive. Moravian took over on its own 16-yard line after
a punt and drove 84 yards in 14 plays for its first touchdown of the game. Venturino capped
off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run, his third of the season. On the drive, Venturino had
a run of 24 yards and he completed two of three passes for 28 yards. Reckenbeil added
the extra-point to cut Wilkes’ lead to 20-10 with 48 seconds remaining in the third
quarter. The Greyhound defense stepped up again and forced the Colonels into their third
three-and-out of the second half. Moravian took over on its own 46-yard line and needed
nine plays two pull within three points. Venturino completed both of this
passes on the drive, the second of which was a 20-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Ben
Hawkins (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan HS). Venturino completed ten of
23 passes for 115 yards, and he ran for 24 yards on nine carries. Hawkins grabbed
four passes for 40 yards, and the touchdown was the 16th of his career, moving him within
two of Mike Howey’s career record. Reckenbeil made his 19th straight
extra-point of the season cutting the Colonels lead to 20-17 with 9:51 remaining in the
game. The Colonels finally put together their first drive of the second half after taking
over on their own 32-yard line after the kick off. Wilkes used 15 plays to cover the 68-yards
to the end zone, taking a 27-17 lead with just 4:02 to play. Moravian would end up turning
the ball over of downs on its next possession; however, the Greyhounds forced the Colonels
to punt with 1:20 left giving the Greyhound offense one more shot. After moving up to the
Moravian 31-yard line, Venturino kneeled down to run out the clock on
the game’s final play. The Colonels had the advantage in total yards in the game
