MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER TO HOST ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE IN COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has earned the second seed in the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Tournament and will host third seeded Elizabethtown College in a semifinal contest on Tuesday, November 1st in a match beginning at 2:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.

Tuesday’s other semifinal will feature top seeded Messiah College (16-0), the top ranked team in the nation, hosting fourth seeded Lebanon Valley College at 7:00 p.m. The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, November 5th in the conference championship match at the highest remaining seed. The winner of the championship contest will receive an automatic berth in the to 2005 NCAA Division III Tournament that begins on November 9th.

The Greyhounds, who were ranked fifth in last week's NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings released by the NSCAA and sixth in the NCAA rankings last week, are 14-4-1 on the season. Moravian, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Eric Lambinus, had a 5-1-1 mark during the Commonwealth Conference regular season and is making the program’s fourth appearance in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament.

Senior forward Megan Collins (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) has netted a team high 14 goals and added six assists for 34 points. Collins has seven game-winning goals and she is second all-time at Moravian with 94 points on 39 goals and six assists in four seasons.

Freshman midfielder/forward Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS) has scored 21 points with eight goals and seven assists. Senior defender Erin Gonda (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury HS) has three goals and an assist for seven points while junior forward Kristina Adams (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) has contributed three goals and five assists for 11 points.

Freshman defender Alexandra Franscella (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) has netted three goals, two of them game-winners, for six points this season while junior midfielder Alisha Davy (Oaklyn, NJ/Haddon Township HS) has a goal and five assists for seven points. Freshman midfielder Katelyn Killea (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) and sophomore midfielder Allison Solomita (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) each have three points on a goal and an assist while senior forward/midfielder Lindsay Pohl (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and senior midfielder Jessica Cordani (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) each have each found the back of the net once.

Fitzpatrick, Adams and Pohl, who also has an assist, each have scored game-winning goals. Sophomore forward Casey Simpson (Laporte, PA/Sullivan Country HS) and sophomore midfielder Jill Newswanger (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove HS) each have one assist.

Freshman goalie Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), this week’s Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, has posted a 0.60 goals-against average, 55 saves, and a 13-4-1 record and nine solo shutouts in 1,654 minutes of action. Sophomore keeper Kelly Wight (Port Murray, NJ/West Morris Central HS) has played 96 minutes with eight saves, a 1-0 record and a solo shutout, and Wight combined on a shutout with Corrigan.

Elizabethtown enters the postseason with an overall mark of 13-5 and a 5-2 slate during the Commonwealth Conference regular season with losses to Moravian and Messiah.

Junior forward Keeley Trumbo leads the Blue Jays in scoring with 24 points on ten goals and four assists. Freshman midfielder/forward Jenna Russo has added nine goals and four assists for 22 points while freshman midfielder/forward Brooke Dotterer has 21 points on eight goals and five assists. Trumbo and Russo have each scored three game-winning goals while Dotterer has two.

Senior forward/midfielder Heather Newswanger has contributed five goals and five assists for 15 points with one game winning goal while junior defender Dana Moyer has scored three goals and three assists for nine points. Junior midfielder Robin Szarzynski and sophomore forward Jenny Fromuth have both added two goals and five assists for nine points while senior defender Lindsay Brown has three goals and two assists for eight points. Szarzynski, Fromuth and Brown each have game winning goals.

Senior forward/midfielder Ilana Unger has a goal and three assists this fall for Elizabethtown while junior midfielder Kelly McCauley and freshman defender/midfielder Gretchen Geiger have each added a goal and an assist for three points. Sophomore defender Emily Gunter and freshman midfielder/defender Jessica Hudon have each found the back of the net twice for two points while senior midfielder/forward Jeanette Halstead has added two assists. Freshman defender Carly Hoskins, freshman midfielder/defender Caitlin Gallagher and senior goalie Pam Ostroski each have an assist this season.

Ostroski has posted a 1.11 goals-against average with 40 saves, three shutouts and a 10-2 mark in 1057 minutes of action this season for the Blue Jays. Junior keeper Dawn Mellen has a 1.33 goals-against average with 18 saves, two shutouts and a 3-3 record in 473 minutes of action while freshman goalie Angela Freeland has three saves in 88 minutes of action. Freshman goalie Lyndsey Reeve has posted one save while seeing 24 minutes in goal this season.
