MORAVIAN’S CHRISTINA SCHERWIN NOMINATED FOR NCAA DIVISION III
25TH ANNIVERSARY MOST OUTSTANDING WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD STUDENT-ATHLETE

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Former Moravian College track & field standout Christina Scherwin , class of 2004, has been nominated for the NCAA Division III 25th Anniversary Women’s Outdoor Track & Field team.

The 25th anniversary of NCAA women's championships will be celebrated throughout the 2005-06 championship season. NCAA Division III women's outdoor track & field began in 1981 and will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary at the 2006 championship. To commemorate this milestone two Most Outstanding Student-Athletes of the last 25 years will be named with your help. To qualify as a candidate each student-athlete listed has won a minimum of three NCAA championships in Outdoor Track & Field and/or currently holds a NCAA championship outdoor track and field record.

Scherwin won the NCAA Division III National Championship in the javelin back in 2002 and 2003, setting the current NCAA Division III Championship record with a throw of 55.34 meters (181 feet, seven inches) in 2003. Scherwin competed just twice at the NCAA Division III National Championships, missing her freshman year of 2001 after a knee injury while warming up for the Penn Relays, and bypassing her senior year of 2004 to concentrate on preparing for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she placed 29th of 44 competitors for her native Denmark.

Scherwin also competed in the NCAA Championships in the shot put four times, earning All-American honors for fourth place finishes indoors in 2003 and outdoors in 2002. She won the Penn Relays twice and the Sea Ray Relays once in the javelin. Scherwin captured a total of nine Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships during the indoor and outdoor seasons in four different events - javelin, shot put, discus and long jump. She was also an MAC runner-up in the high jump and the 20-pound weight throw.
