MORAVIAN’S KELLY APPLEGATE NAMED TO D3HOOPS.COM
MID-ATLANTIC ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM

STERLING, Va. -- D3hoops.com has announced the fifth annual D3hoops.com All-Region team for Division III basketball and Moravian College junior forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) has earned a spot on the Mid-Atlantic Region First Team announced Tuesday.

Players were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. A total of 599 players were nominated nationwide.

The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players and the top vote-getters at each position were named to the All-Region team.

"We are thankful to the Sports Information Directors across Division III who took the time to nominate and vote to provide broader recognition to these worthy student-athletes," said D3hoops.com publisher Pat Coleman. "Their continued help and participation is integral to the All-Region team and everything else we do."

A regional Player of the Year and Coach of the Year were selected in each region for the first time, the Player of the Year as the top vote-getter in each region and the Coach of the Year in consultation with regional members.

Applegate, who is also a finalist for the Kodak All-American Team selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, helped Moravian to a 21-7 record this season, a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament and a runner-up finish in the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Tournament.

Applegate, who was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team, the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball December Team of the Month, the Women's DIII News December Player of the Month, the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year and the Lehigh Valley Small College Women's Basketball Player of the Year, led Moravian at 19.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7 percent (192 of 345) from the floor.

Applegate, who is ranked in the top 25 nationally in field goal percentage, also added 37 assists, 43 steals and 26 blocked shots. Applegate became the 17th player in Moravian history to score 1,000 career points in the final regular season game and now has 1,075 points in her career. She also has 499 career rebounds heading into her senior season.
