MORAVIAN COLLEGE GOLFER BRIAN BERGSTOL TO
PLAY IN 81ST U.S. AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP
BETHLEHEM,
PA --- Moravian College golfer Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel,
PA/Bangor HS) has qualified to play in the 81st United
States Amateur Public Links Championship, to be played July 10th
through 15th at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington.
Bergstol, who will be a senior when he returns
to Moravian in September, earned a spot in the championship with
a win at a sectional qualifying tournament at The Architects Club
in Lopatcong Township, New Jersey. Bergstol fired
rounds of 69 and 68 to finish five under par at 137, leading the
70-player field by five strokes.
Bergstol won the 2006 Commonwealth Conference
Individual Championship with a 54-hole score of 212, and he helped
Moravian capture it’s first-ever Commonwealth Conference title
and fourth conference championship in school history. Bergstol,
who set a school record in 2005-06 with an average round of 74.6
strokes, also won the Lehigh Valley Inter-Club Championship individual
title this spring. Bergstol, who has been on the
Ping/Golf Coaches Association of America All-Region Team the last
three seasons, has a career average of 76.32 strokes over 53 ½
rounds, which is the best average by over a stroke in the Moravian
record books.
The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will feature a 156-player
field that will play two qualifying rounds to determine the top
64 players for match play, which will determine the winner. More
