MORAVIAN’S MEAGAN HENNESSY AND RICHELLE
MCWILLIAMS EARN ECAC SOUTHERN ALL-STAR HONORS
CAPE COD, MA --- Senior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold,
NJ/Freehold Township HS) and senior designated player Richelle
McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) of the Moravian
College softball team have been named to the 2006 Eastern College
Athletic Conference Division III Southern All-Star First Team.
The duo helped the Greyhounds win the team’s sixth straight
Commonwealth Conference Tournament title and seventh straight Commonwealth
Conference Championship and garnered the program’s ninth consecutive
NCAA Division III Tournament appearance by winning the 2006 Commonwealth
Conference Tournament. Moravian was the regional runner-up at the
Salisbury Regional and completed the 2006 season with an overall
record of 37-9, the third straight season with at least 37 wins.
The Greyhounds have played in the regional championship game the
last four years.
Hennessy,
who was named the Commonwealth Co-Pitcher of the Year and Rookie
of the Year in 2003 and Pitcher of the Year the last two season,
was 25-7 in the circle this season with a 0.66 ERA, 16 shutouts,
five saves, two no-hitters, 267 strikeouts and just 115 hits, 53
walks and 30 runs (22 earned) in 234 2/3 innings of action. She
was the ECAC Division III Southern Pitcher of the Year the last
two seasons as well as earning a spot on the All-Star First Team.
Hennessy finished her career with a 92-24 record
and as one of the top pitchers in NCAA Division III history. Hennessy
is ranked in the top 15 in shutouts with 53 which is second all-time,
fourth in complete games with 105, fifth in strikeouts with 876,
sixth in wins with 92, sixth in innings pitched with 819 2/3, tenth
in games started with 114, tied for tenth in games with 129 and
14th in ERA at 0.91. Hennessy, who was the Commonwealth
Conference Pitcher of the Week six times this season and was the
Commonwealth Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, had one
hit at the plate this spring and has scored 11 runs.
McWilliams,
who was on the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team and the ECAC
Division III Southern All-Star First Team last season and the Commonwealth
All-Conference Second Team in 2004, hit .344 with 42 hits, 24 RBIs,
11 runs, 12 walks, eight doubles and a team leading eight home runs
as Moravian hit a school record 26 homers this spring. McWilliams
finished her career second all-time with 23 career homers.
