MORAVIAN COLLEGE NAMES WELLES LOBB HEAD
MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY COACH
BETHLEHEM,
PA --- Moravian College has named Welles Lobb as
its new head men's and women's cross country coach effective immediately.
Lobb will also serve as an assistant coach for
the Greyhound indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
“We are excited to have coach Lobb join our staff,”
said Moravian College Director of Athletics Paul Moyer.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position
and looks to keep the championship tradition of Moravian’s
running program going into the future.”
Lobb comes to Moravian after 16 years as a coach
at Muhlenberg College including one season as head coach after 15
years as an assistant beginning in 1990. He coached the first Muhlenberg
student-athletes to reach the NCAA Division III Cross Country National
Championships including three men and one woman over the last five
years.
“Moravian has a rich cross country tradition with numerous
Middle Atlantic Conference Championships and NCAA appearances over
the last 15 years,” Lobb said. “I look
forward to being able to keep this championship tradition going
as well as working with the student-athletes and staff at Moravian.”
Lobb was also assistant men's and women's indoor
and outdoor track and field teams at Muhlenberg including serving
as head coach during 1992-1993.
Recently, Lobb earned his USATF Level I certification.
He also served as an editor of Runners World magazine from
1994 to 2001 and was a competitive distance runner for 34 years.
Lobb earned a Bachelors of Art in Geography from
Mansfield University in 1978 and a Bachelors of Arts in English
from Cedar Crest College in 2005.
Lobb replaces Mark Will-Weber after 19 years
at Moravian.
