MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKED SECOND IN COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE COACHES PRESEASON POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has been selected to finish second in the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the conference head coaches.

The Greyhounds received 42 points. Messiah College, which has won the last six Commonwealth championships, was selected first with 49 points and garnered seven first-place votes. Rounding out the conference poll was Elizabethtown College in third with 39 points, Lebanon Valley College with 26 points, Susquehanna University with 25 points, Albright College with 24 points, Widener University with 12 points and Juniata College with eight points.

Expectations are high again this season for the Moravian College women’s soccer team with the 2006 squad returning 12 letterwinners and seven starters from last year’s 16-6-1 squad that reached the Commonwealth Conference Championship match and played in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament for the first time in school history.
Head coach Eric Lambinus feels the team can get back to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with some hard work and leadership from his returning players.

Sophomore midfielder Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS) was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team while sophomore goalie Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) earned a spot on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team. The duo looks to lead the Greyhounds back to the post season.

Fitzpatrick, who also earned a spot on the adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-East Region First Team, scored eight goals and eight assists for 24 points. Corrigan led the Hounds in the goal last season in her first collegiate season. She played 2,026:38 minutes with a 0.75 GAA, 71 saves, a 15-5-1 record and 10 shutouts.

The Greyhounds will open their 2006 campaign on Saturday, September 2nd versus Drew University in a non-conference match on the HUB Quad beginning at 2:30 p.m.
