THE SERIES: Saturday’s meeting will be the 61st in the series with Moravian holding a 31-28-1 lead. Moravian has won the last six meetings, 38-35, last season in Bethlehem, 27-20, in Annville in 2004, 42-7 in 2003, 41-21 in 2002, 34-20 in 2001 and 19-6 in 2000 while the Flying Dutchmen's last win was a 24-13 decision in 1999.

LAST TIME THEY MET: In Bethlehem last fall, kicker Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) kicked a 19-yard field goal with four seconds left, and Moravian defeated Lebanon Valley College, 38-35, in an offensively-dominated MAC football game at Rocco Calvo Field. The two team’s combined for 805 yards of offense on 126 plays and all 11 scoring drives were at least 54 yards long, including five over 70 yards. Playing in place of starting running back Chris Jacoubs, backup Marc Panepinto (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) ran for a career-high 213 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries for Moravian. The Greyhounds had a season high total of 305 rushing yards with fullback Kevin Lukich adding 63 yards on 12 carries and quarterback Jerry Venturino running for 33 yards and two scores on seven attempts. Venturino also competed eight for 13 passes for 134 yards and two more scores. Moravian’s running game was in high gear early on. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Greyhounds ran the ball 11 straight times, with Venturino scoring on a quarterback keeper. Reckenbeil, a former high school soccer player who had never kick a football in a game situation until September of last season, made the first of five extra-points in the game to remain perfect on the season at 25-of-25 on point after attempts. After forcing the Dutchmen to go three-and-out, Moravian went to the air just once on a 7-play, 77-yard touchdown drive, capped by a Venturino 2-yard run. However, the Greyhounds lone passing play was big one, with Venturino hitting wide receiver Shawn Martell (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) with a 43-yard pass that gave the ’Hounds the ball at the LVC-26. The catch was the 50th of Martell’s career, and he had three receptions for 65 yards in the game. Reckenbeil’s second extra point made it 14-0 with 4:10 left in the first quarter. The Dutchmen would score next to make it 14-6 with 10:04 left in the opening half. Moravian threatened to score again on the ensuing possession, going 41 yards on eight plays to the Dutchman-29, but the drive stalled when Venturino fell on a bad snap on a fourth-and-two. Lebanon Valley continued to move the ball well tied the game 14-14 with 3:17 left in the half on a touchdown pass and two-point conversion. A short kickoff gave Moravian the ball at the LVC-49. The Dutchmen came up with a stop on third-and-one at its own 23, but LVC was called for pass interference, the first penalty of the game. Two plays later, Venturino found Martell for a 10-yard touchdown pass, as the Greyhounds went ahead 21-14 with 1:02 on the clock. After receiving the opening kickoff of the second half, Lebanon Valley pulled even at 21 with 9:41 left in the third quarter. The Greyhounds punted on the next possession, and on LVC’s first play from scrimmage, a 72-yard touchdown pass gave Lebanon Valley its first lead of the game at 28-21 with 5:44 to go in the quarter. Moravian answered with a five-play, 67-yard drive, highlighted by a 36-yard pass from Venturino to wide receiver Russ Demko. Panepinto capped the march with a 1-yard touchdown run, and Reckenbeil’s kick made it 28-28 with 3:32 left in the third quarter. Lebanon Valley would get its seven-point lead back on the ensuing drive for a 35-28 lead with 14:28 remaining in the game. Moravian got a good return from wide receiver Rob Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS) to start the drive at its own 43-yard line. The Greyhounds went back to the running game and rushed the ball on the first seven plays of the drive. After a holding penalty forced Moravian into long yardage on third down, Lebanon Valley was called for another pass interference penalty on an incomplete third down pass. After two more runs and an incomplete pass, Venturino would hit Martell with his second touchdown of the game, this one from 12 yards out. Reckenbeil’s kick knotted the score at 35-35 with 8:18 remaining in the contest. Moravian would force Lebanon Valley to punt after just three plays; however, the Greyhounds would give the ball back after just five plays when Venturino was intercepted. The Greyhound defense stepped up again and forced another three-and-out. The Greyhounds would take possession on their own 24-yard line with just 3:49 remaining in the game. Moravian would run eight straight running plays to move the ball down to the Lebanon Valley two-yard line with just seven seconds left in the game. The Greyhounds called a timeout to bring in Reckenbeil on the fourth and goal play for the 19-yard field goal attempt. The Flying Dutchmen used their final two timeouts to try and ice Reckenbeil; however, he connected on his eighth field goal of the season to put the Greyhounds ahead with just four seconds to play. For Moravian, tight end Kris Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) pulled in three receptions for 31 yards. Linebacker Andrew Morrissey (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) led the Greyhound defense with ten tackles while safety Mario Bevilacqua had seven tackles. Linebacker Chad DiFelice added six tackles while linebacker Cliff Garr (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS), defensive end Nick Feo (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS), safety GJ Weiss and defensive tackle Robert Stockley each had five tackles. Feo had two tackles for loss.

LAST WEEK: Sophomore tailback Tyler McCambridge (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries, and he threw one pass for a four-yard touchdown to lead Moravian to a 22-3 victory over Lycoming College in Middle Atlantic Conference action at Rocco Calvo Field. Lycoming received the opening kickoff and began its first drive of the game for its own 32-yard line. The Warriors used a combination rushes and passes to move the ball down to the Moravian 13-yard line. However, Greyhound freshman linebacker Jayson Williams (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood HS) had a sack and forced a fumble. Moravian senior defensive end Nick Feo covered the ball at the Greyhound 24-yard line. The Moravian offense would run the ball down the field, literally, rushing the ball on all 14 plays to cover the 76-yards to the end zone. McCambridge finished off the drive with a six-yard run for his fourth touchdown of the season. On the drive, McCambridge ran the ball ten times for 63 yards. Sophomore Brian Reckenbeil split the uprights with the extra-point to give the Greyhounds a 7-0 lead with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter. After a touchback on the kickoff, Lycoming picked up nine yards in three plays before bringing on the punt team on fourth down. However, the snap on the punt sailed past the right side of the punter and into the end zone. The Lycoming punter ran back and kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone, giving the Greyhounds a safety and a 9-0 lead with 1:22 left in the first quarter. The teams would trade punts over the next five possessions with Moravian punting three times, twice on three-and-out drive, and Lycoming punting twice. The Warriors eventually got good field position at the Moravian 47-yard line with 3:50 left in the first half on the Greyhounds’ third punt. Lycoming moved the ball down to the 30-yard line before a pass attempt was broken up by Moravian freshman defensive back Brad Bodine (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) that ended up in the hands of sophomore safety Carl Robinson (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley HS), who returned the interception nine yards. Moravian ran one play to run out the clock and head to the locker room with a 9-0 lead. The Greyhounds received the opening kickoff of the second half and on third-and-four, freshman quarterback Ryan Rempe (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley HS) was intercepted at the Lycoming 40-yard line. The Moravian defense would eventually force the Warriors to punt, but the Greyhounds gave the ball right back to Lycoming with McCambridge fumbling. The Warriors were unable to pick up a first down but were close enough for a 27-yard field goal, cutting Moravian’s lead to 9-3 with 6:55 remaining in the third quarter. A penalty on the ensuing kickoff gave the Greyhounds the ball at their own 35-yard line to begin their next possession. Moravian went back to the ground game running on eight of nine plays in the drive including a 28-yard carry by sophomore fullback Morgan de Rouen (West Milford, NJ/West Milford HS). McCambridge would score his second touchdown of the game to finish off the drive on a 15-yard carry up the middle. The Greyhounds went for the two-point conversion to push the lead to two touchdowns but Rempe’s pass for junior tight end Kris Bisci was low, leaving Moravian’s lead at 15-3 with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter. On Lycoming’s first play, Greyhound sophomore linebacker Andrew Morrissey intercepted a pass at the Lycoming 43-yard line, and Morrissey had a 15-yard return to set the Moravian offense up at the Lycoming 28-yard line. A pair of McCambridge rushes gave the Greyhounds a first-and-goal from the two-yard line. Facing a third-and-four after McCambridge was stopped twice, the Greyhounds called timeout. After the timeout, McCambridge took a pitch from Rempe and rushed out to the right side before throwing a four-yard scoring pass to Bisci in the back of the end zone, Bisci’s fourth touchdown reception of the year and McCambridge’s first career pass. Reckenbeil made the extra-point to push Moravian’s lead to 22-3 with 14:26 remaining in the game. Lycoming would have to punt on its final two drives of the game while Moravian punted once and would eventually run out the clock with a ten-play, 44-yard drive. Rempe completed two of five pass attempts for 18 yards while de Rouen had 48 yards on six carries for the Greyhounds. Bisci caught two passes for 13 yards while senior wide receiver Shawn Martell had one reception for nine yards. Martell, who also played defensive back in third-and-long throughout the game, also returned a pair of punts for 19 yards. Senior fullback Joe Costanzo (Barnstead, NH/Bow HS & Tilton School) had eight yards on three carries while junior running back Mark Peters (Mendham, NJ/Mendham HS), who recently converted from linebacker to running back due to injuries had five yards on two carries in the game’s final drive.
