MORAVIAN WOMEN’S VOLLEYABLL TEAM
AWARDED FIFTH SEED IN ECAC SOUTH TOURNAMENT
CAPE COD, MA --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball
team has been awarded the fifth seed in the 2006 Eastern College
Athletic Conference South Championships that will be hosted by New
Jersey City University on Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November
11th.
Friday’s first two quarterfinal contests will have the fifth
seeded Greyhounds taking on fourth seed Franklin & Marshall
College (19-10) at 3:00 p.m. on Court 1 while third seeded Westminster
College (23-11) and sixth seed Rutgers University-Newark (23-11)
will play on the Main Court at the same time. On Friday at 6:00
p.m., the top seed and host Gothic Knights (30-8) will play eighth
seeded Neumann College (21-14) on the Main Court while second seed
Penn State University-Behrend (27-3) will play seventh seed Lebanon
Valley College (21-10) on Court 1.
On Saturday, the winners will meet in the semifinals at 9:00 a.m.
with the winner of the Moravian-Franklin & Marshall match will
battle the winner of New Jersey City University-Neumann on the Main
Court while the winners of the other two matches will play on Court
1. The Championship match will take place on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
on the Main Court.
The Greyhounds are 16-13 on the season. Moravian, under the direction
of 14-year head coach Shelley Bauder, had a 5-2
mark during the Commonwealth Conference regular season. The Greyhounds
played for the conference championship against Juniata every year
from 1996 to 2003 and reached the Commonwealth Conference semifinals
in 2005 and 2006. Bauder has a career record of
297-157.
Senior outside hitter Kelly Bauer (Hellertown, PA/Notre
Dame HS), who was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference
First Team, leads Moravian this fall with 373 kills, 287 digs, 32
service aces and 27 blocks, and she has become the sixth player
in school history with 1,000 career kills. Junior middle hitter
Jenna Wallace (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS),
who was on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team, has contributed
325 kills and a .284 hitting percentage to go with 69 blocks, 33
digs and 19 service aces.
Senior setter Valerie Korsak (Coplay, PA/Whitehall HS),
who was on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team in 2006,
leads the Greyhounds with 1,091 assists to go along with 247 digs,
116 kills, 24 blocks and 25 service aces while sophomore setter/libero
Stephanie Struble (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) has
team highs of 402 digs and 43 service aces to go along with 42 assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre
Dame HS) has 286 kills, 215 digs, 19 blocks and 28 service
aces while junior outside hitter Rachel Radocha (Whitehall,
PA/Whitehall HS), who is out for the season with an injury,
has added 196 kills, 114 digs, 30 blocks and 17 service aces. Junior
middle hitter Katherine Perkins (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton
HS) has contributed 69 blocks to go with 107 kills and
22 digs.
Sophomore setter Elisa Molchany (North Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua
HS) has contributed 14 assists, 52 digs and 11 service
aces while senior defensive specialist Ashley Hugo (Bath,
PA/Northampton HS) has 131 digs and 12 service aces. Junior
defensive specialist Elise Martin (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS)
has contributed 117 digs and 13 service aces while junior
defensive specialist Christa Burke (Center Valley, PA/Southern
Lehigh HS) has 47 digs and six service aces. Freshman middle
hitter Alison Whitaker (Millis, MA/Millis) has
seven kills, three digs and two blocks in limited action in her
debut season.
