MORAVIAN’S KELLY APPLEGATE NAMED
TO D3HOOPS.COM MID-ATLANTIC ALL-REGION THIRD TEAM
STERLING,
Va. -- D3hoops.com has announced the sixth annual D3hoops.com All-Region
team for Division III basketball and Moravian College senior forward
Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) has earned
a spot on the Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team announced Wednesday.
Players were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at
the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season
wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. A total
of 638players were nominated nationwide.
The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players
in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four
backcourt players and the top vote-getters at each position were
named to the All-Region team.
"We are thankful to the Sports Information Directors across
Division III who took the time to nominate and vote to provide broader
recognition to these worthy student-athletes," said D3hoops.com
publisher Pat Coleman. "Their continued help and participation
is integral to the All-Region team and everything else we do."
A regional Player of the Year and Coach of the Year were selected
in each region for the second straight year, the Player of the Year
as the top vote-getter in each region and the Coach of the Year
in consultation with regional members.
Applegate, who was on the Commonwealth All-Conference
First Team and the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Teams
of the Year for a second straight year, helped Moravian to a 19-11
record this season, the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference
Division III Southern Championship and a runner-up finish in the
2007 Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
Applegate, who was named the 2006 Commonwealth
Conference Player of the Year, led the Greyhounds in scoring with
an average of 15.1 points per contest, and she was second at 6.5
rebounds per game. Applegate, who finished her
career fifth all-time in points with 1,529 points and seventh all-time
in rebounds with 694 rebounds, also had 50 steals, 45 assists and
11 blocked shots this winter while shooting 81.2 percent (138-170)
at the foul line. Applegate broke the school record
for free throws attempted with 610 and free throws made with 468.
