23 GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO MIDDLE ATLANTIC
STATES COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CORPORATION
WINTER ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College winter athletic teams had
23 members named to the 2006-2007 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate
Athletic Corporation Winter Academic Honor Roll announced Thursday
with at least one member from each of the four winter sports.
The Honor Roll, which has a total of 387 student-athletes on it,
comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or
higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered
a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher
and completed the playing season in good standing.
Both the women’s and men’s track and field teams had
eight honorees, the women’s basketball team had five and the
men’s basketball team had two members of their team on the
MASCAC Winter Academic Honor Roll.
Leading the selections for the women’s track team, were
seniors Erin Recker (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS)
and Amy Reehil (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS).
Recker helped Moravian win its 11th title at the
2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships with a win
in the 55-meter dash having a time of 7.34 and placing 3rd in the
200-meter dash. Reehil had a time of 1:01.05 in
the 400-meter dash and 26.59 seconds in the 200-meter dash, making
her second in each event. Senior Tammy Balliet (Whitehall,
PA/Whitehall HS) competed in the shot put with a throw
of 9.50 meters (31 feet, two inches) and the 20 pound weight throw,
tossing 12.12 meters (39 feet, 9 1/4 inches).
Also earning spots on the MASCAC Winter Academic Honor Roll from
the women’s track and field squad were seniors Suzanne
Tamlyn (Wappingers Falls, NY/Wallkill HS) and Jennifer
Connolly (Weare, NH/Manchester West HS), and sophomores
Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS),
Kayla Teeling (Milford, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) and
Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack Area HS).
Leading the men’s track and field team honorees was junior
Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown Area HS),
who competed in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.64 at the
MAC Championships, placing second. Tussey also
competed in the preliminaries of the event at the NCAA Division
III Indoor National Championships. Senior Anthony Sarno
(Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS) and junior Timothy
Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) were also
on the squad. Sarno had a time of 4:52.62 in the
mile run, while Pagano had a time of 16:18.79 in
the 5,000-meter run.
Also on the MASCAC Winter Academic Honor Roll from the men’s
track and field team were juniors Alan Fatzinger (Catasauqua,
PA/Catasauqua HS) and Vince Pagano (Harrisburg,
PA/Central Dauphin East HS), and sophomores John
McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic HS), Jared
Henrie (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley HS) and Timothy
Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS).
The women’s basketball team had an overall record of 19-11
and a Commonwealth Conference record of 9-5. They won the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Southern Championships
defeating King’s College 86-64. Leading the team is senior
Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS). Applegate
has a career total of 1,529 points scored, making her fifth all
time. This season, Applegate scored 454 points,
grabbed 195 rebounds, had 45 assists and 50 steals, and had a free
throw percentage of 81.2 percent.
Juniors Megan Kocon (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) contributed
15 points, six assists and 13 rebounds this season while Christina
Moll (Kintersville, PA/Palisades HS) had nine points, two
steals, and six rebounds. Sophomore Rachelle Elneus (Easton,
PA/Notre Dame HS) added 23 points, six steals and 12 rebounds,
and classmate Cody Fedorishen (Nazareth, PA/Allentown Central
Catholic HS) had 64 points, 11 steals, 14 assists and 63
rebounds this season.
The men’s basketball team posted a record of 11-14 overall
and a 4-10 Commonwealth Conference record. Leading the team is junior
Steve Wenderfer (Chester, NJ/Mendham HS). He had
253 points this season to go with 24 steals, 22 assists and 145
rebounds. Also making the Academic Honor Roll was senior forward
Matt Devlin (Sadsburyville, PA/Coatesville HS).
This season, Devlin contributed 111 points, 17
steals, 17 assists, 20 blocked shots, and 76 rebounds.
