MORAVIAN'S MARIA DeBONIS NAMED COMMONWEALTH
CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Sophomore pitcher Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre
Dame HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been
named the Commonwealth Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for
her performance last week.
DeBonis, pictured at right, helped the 12th-ranked
Greyhounds to a doubleheader sweep of Juniata College, 4-1 and 7-0,
in the team’s only action last week due to weather. Moravian
is 9-3 overall and 2-0 in Commonwealth Conference action, and the
Greyhounds’ only three losses are to teams ranked in the latest
National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll.
DeBonis tossed a four-hit, 7-0 shutout of Juniata
in her only action last week. DeBonis allowed a
walk along with the four hits while striking out a career high 12
batters in the victory. DeBonis also had one assist
in the field during the game. The shutout was her second of the
season.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 27th
in a non-conference doubleheader at the United States Merchant Marine
Academy beginning at 3:00 p.m. in King’s Point, New York.
The Greyhounds and Mariners will be charter members of the Landmark
Conference next season.
