MORAVIAN’S ERIN RECKER HONORED AS
MASCAC STUDENT SCHOLAR ATHLETE
FOR WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Moravian College senior Erin Recker (Catasauqua,
PA/Catasauqua HS) has been named the 2007 Middle Atlantic
States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Student Scholar-Athlete in
the sport of women’s indoor track & field.
The MASCAC recognizes one athlete for each of its 22 sports as
its Scholar-Athlete Award winner. The nominee must be a senior,
have participated in his or her sport during the season in which
the award is given, and must have a minimum cumulative grade-point
average of 3.20. The award is based on three criteria: academic
achievement, athletics excellence, and service and leadership. The
student-athletes will receive their awards at the MASCAC Awards
Luncheon at Widener University on May 8th.
Recker, who has a 3.48 GPA and is majoring in
sociology and elementary education, competes in the sprint events
for Moravian’s track & field teams, both indoors and outdoors.
This past winter, Recker won the 55-meter dash
at the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in a time of
7.34 seconds, the fourth consecutive year she has won the event
at the MAC Indoor Championship meet.
Over her career, Recker has qualified for the
NCAA Division III National Championships in the 55-meter dash indoors
and the 100 and 200-meter dashes outdoors. She placed tenth in the
55-meter dash at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Meet. Recker,
who has helped Moravian to three indoor MAC team championships and
two outdoors, has also won a total of nine MAC Championships in
her career with two wins in the 100-meter dash outdoors, two in
the 4x100-meter relay outdoors and one in the 4x200-meter relay
indoors in addition to her four 55-meter dash titles indoors.
Recker, who has set seven school records in her
career with five individual and two relay marks, holds five current
school marks – Indoors – 55-meter dash (7.23), 60-meter
dash (7.88) and 4x200-meter relay (1:46.06) – Outdoors –
100-meter dash (12.26) and 4x100-meter relay (48.17). She is part
of Moravian’s outdoor 4x100-meter relay squad that set the
school record and provisionally qualified for the 2007 NCAA Division
III Outdoor National Championships on March 31st.
Recker has been on the Dean’s List twice
during her academic career at Moravian, and she has been honored
on the MASCAC Academic Honor Roll five times. Recker
has also been a member of Moravian’s Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee, the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and the Sociology Club.
