MORAVIAN'S OZZIE BROWN NAMED ECAC DIVISION
III MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

COD, MA --- Junior Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth
Whitemarsh HS) of the Moravian College men’s outdoor
track& field team has been named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Division III Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance
last week.
Brown won the decathlon orange at the Bucknell
University Bison Outdoor Classic with a stadium record of 6,797
points. Brown's total is also a Moravian record
and automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Division III National
Championships. It is the highest point total in NCAA Division III
so far this season. Brown, who was competing in
the decathlon for the first time in his collegiate career, broke
the school mark set by Greg O'Neil back in 1993 by 233 points.
Brown was in first place after the first day
of competition with 3,828 points. Brown was first
in the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds to earn 865 points, first
in the long jump at 7.22 meters (23 feet, 8 1/4 inches), a distance
that provisionally qualifies for the NCAA Division III National
Championships, to earn 866 points, first in the shot put at 11.26
meters (36 feet, 11 1/2 inches) to garner 562, points, second in
the high jump at 1.89 meters (six feet, 2 1/4 inches) to earn 705
points and first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.67 seconds
to earn 830 points.
Brown started the second day of competition with
a first place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of
14.88 seconds to earn 864 points. Brown was then
second in the discus with a toss of 29.73 meters (97 feet, six inches)
to garner 459 points, second in the pole vault clearing 4.05 meters
(13 feet, 3 1/2 inches) to earn 631 points, second in the javelin
with a toss of 44.63 meters (146 feet, five inches) to earn 510
points and fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:09.79 to earn 505 points.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 20th
and Saturday, April 21st when the team hosts the Greyhound Invitational
at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
