MORAVIAN MEN’S TENNIS SQUAD SEEDED
4TH IN UPCOMING COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE TEAM TOURNAMENT
BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s tennis team
will compete in the Commonwealth Conference Team Tournament for
the first time since the 2002 season when the fourth seeded Greyhounds
travel to top seed and host Messiah College for a semifinal match
on Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday’s other semifinal features second seeded Elizabethtown
College and third seed Juniata College at 11:00 a.m. The winners
will meet on Sunday, April 22nd at 1:00 p.m. in Grantham with the
champion receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National
Championship Tournament.
The Greyhounds, under the direction of head coach Jim
Walker, have an 8-5 record this season and were 3-3 in
the Commonwealth Conference regular season.
Leading Moravian on the court have been freshman Ian Box
(Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School) and senior Neil
Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS), who were both named to
the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team. Box,
who was also named the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year,
has posted an 11-4 singles mark including a 9-4 dual match record
while playing in the top singles spot in his first year with the
Greyhounds. Box and Caniga have
combined for an 11-2 mark at first doubles this season as well.
Caniga, who made the Commonwealth All-Conference
Team for the fourth straight year, has posted a 12-1 singles record
this season at second singles.
Sophomore Keith Feinman (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield HS)
has a 10-9 singles record while playing fourth singles. Senior Scott
Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) has nine wins this year
with a 9-11 record in the third singles spot while sophomore Jeremiah
Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) is 8-7 in singles
action this season at sixth singles. Sophomore Lee Gustin
(Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) has a 5-10 singles slate while
playing fifth singles.
In doubles action, Reinhart and Feinman
are 4-9 this season at third doubles while Gustin
and Shelbo have also combined for a 4-9 mark at
second doubles. Box and Reinhart
are 1-1 while Feinman and Shelbo
have a 2-3 record.
