MORAVIAN'S PETE MOORE & TREVOR LAWRENCE
NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE BASEBALL
PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Senior shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota, NJ/Bogota HS)
and junior pitcher Trevor Lawrence (Lansford, PA/Marian
Catholic HS) of the Moravian College baseball team has
been named the Commonwealth Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher
of the Week for their performances last week.
The duo helped Moravian to a 5-1 record last week including a
three-game Commonwealth Conference series sweep of Messiah College.
The Greyhounds won the first four games of the week for their second
four-game winning streak of the season.
Moore, pictured at right, hit .476 last week
with ten hits including three doubles and a grand slam in 21 at-bats
to go along with one stolen base, three walks and three hit-by-pitches.
Moore also had nine putouts, 17 assists and two
errors in 28 chances in the field. He began the week with a two-for-three
performance with a double, two hit-by-pitches and two RBIs in a
7-5 victory over Delaware Valley College that helped Moravian snap
a seven-game losing streak. Moore was then two-for-five
with an RBI and a stolen base in a 10-7 win at Messiah to begin
a three-game Commonwealth Conference series. He was two-for-three
with a run on the first game of the doubleheader against Messiah,
a 2-0 Greyhound win, and Moore was one-for-four
with a run and a double in the second game, a 1-0, nine-inning win
by Moravian.
Moore
was just one-for-two with a run and a double in a 5-4 loss at King’s
College in the first game of a doubleheader; however, he was hit
by a pitch and intentionally walked for a .750 on-base percentage
for the game. Moore completed the week with a two-for-four
performance with two runs and a grand slam home run, his sixth homer
of the season and 12 of his career, in a 5-4 Moravian win at King’s.
Moore improved his school career records to 166
hits and 32 doubles during the week.
Lawrence, pictured at left, tossed a nine-inning
shutout to earn a 1-0 victory and give Moravian a Commonwealth Conference
series sweep of Messiah in his only action last week. Lawrence
allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out three batters
for his tenth collegiate win and second career shutout. The contest
was part of a doubleheader and originally scheduled for just seven
innings but neither team scored forcing extra innings.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 24th
in a non-conference game versus DeSales University at Limeport Stadium
beginning at 7:00 p.m.
