MORAVIAN'S MARIA DeBONIS NAMED COMMONWEALTH
CONFERENCE SOFTBALL
PITCHER OF THE WEEK FOR THRID CONSECUTIVE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Sophomore pitcher Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre
Dame HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been
named the Commonwealth Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for
the third consecutive week, for her performance last week.
DeBonis, who was also the Commonwealth Conference
Pitcher of the Week on March 26th, had a 3-0 record last week to
help fifth-ranked Moravian to a 5-1 as the Greyhounds clinched the
top seed in the 2007 Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
DeBonis started the week with a 4-0 shutout of
Lebanon Valley College to extend her scoreless inning streak to
38 innings. She had her ninth shutout of the season and second one-hitter
of the year in the game as she allowed three walks and struck out
seven batters. DeBonis’ scoreless inning
streak was snapped in the first inning of a 4-1 victory over Elizabethtown
College. She allowed five hits and four walks while striking out
11 in the victory. DeBonis finished the week with
her tenth shutout and third one-hitter of the season in a 7-0 victory
over rival Muhlenberg College. DeBonis had a no-hitter
through six innings and allowed just one walk while striking out
12 batters.
For the week, DeBonis was 3-0 with two shutouts,
two one-hitters, seven hits allowed, eight walks allowed, a 0.33
ERA and 30 strikeouts in 21 innings.
At the plate, DeBonis was five-of-15 for a .333
average with five RBIs, four runs, a double and a home run, her
second of the season. She also had a putout and two assists in three
chances in the field.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 24th
in a non-conference doubleheader versus Eastern University beginning
at 3:30 p.m. at Blue & Grey Field in Bethlehem.
