MORAVIAN HONORS SENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES;
HACKLEMAN & BERGSTOL NAMED SENIOR ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College honored its 2007 senior student-athletes at its annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet Wednesday night in the Best Western Lehigh Valley Hotel & Conference Center. Women’s basketball standout Jenny Hackleman (Solvang, CA/Rutgers Prep {NJ} HS) was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while golfer Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete award. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete awards were presented to women’s tennis player Margo Kokolus (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS) and football athlete Marc Panepinto (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS). The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian’s athletics program was presented to Anthony Morelli ’59.

Hackleman, a forward, helped Moravian's women's basketball team to a 19-11 overall record and the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Southern Championship. Hackleman averaged 11.2 points per contest while contributing 65 assists, 50 steals, and she led the team in rebounds with 229 and in blocked shots with 32 this season. Hackleman was also named to the Commonwealth All Conference Second Team. Hackleman finished out her career with 814 rebounds, which is third all-time, and with 1,161 points, which is 11th all-time.

Bergstol won the 2007 Commonwealth Conference Individual Championship this past weekend with a five-under par 211 in the two-day, 54-hole tournament at Shawnee Country Club. Bergstol also won the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Individual Championship, and he was the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and 2006. Bergstol has been on the PING/Golf Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team the last three years, and he earned spots on the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team in 2007, 2006 and 2004. Bergstol’s 71.93 stroke average for the 2006-07 season breaks his own school by over two and a half strokes which he set last year at 74.58. Bergstol is also the career leader in stroke average by more than two strokes at 75.40 over 67.5 rounds in his collegiate career.

Kokolus helped the women’s tennis team to the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Championship, a 12-1 fall record and the team’s first-ever berth in the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championships. Kokolus named to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team while posting a 9-8 record at first singles for the Greyhounds. Kokolus was also 6-10 in doubles action while playing the top spot with senior Courtney Hall. Kokolus has a 3.74 grade point average, and she is majoring in accounting and a minor in economics.

Panepinto, a running back, saw action in just two games due to injuries and had 49 yards on eight carries in his final campaign. Panepinto gained 707 yards on 129 carries with four touchdowns and a long run of 42 yards during the 2005 season. Last year in a start against Lebanon Valley College, Panepinto ran for 213 yards, the eighth best game in school history, and a touchdown on 38 carries. Panepinto has a 3.74 grade point average, and he is majoring in history and education.

Morelli has made many contributions to the Moravian Athletic Department since his graduation including helping fund the new scoreboard at Rocco Calvo Field and reinstating the tradition of greyhounds leading the football team on the field before games and after halftime.
