52 GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO 2006 MIDDLE ATLANTIC
STATES COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CORPORATION
FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College fall athletic teams had
52 members named to the 2006 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic
Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday with at
least one member from all eight of Moravian’s fall sports.
The MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll, which notes academic excellence
by student-athletes, selected 597 honorees as announced by Executive
Director Ken Andrews. The Honor Roll comprises those student-athletes
of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level
sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00
scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.
Student-athletes are selected from men’s and women’s
cross country, field hockey, football, volleyball, women’s
tennis and men’s and women’s soccer.
The Moravian football team had 16 honorees, while the women’s
tennis team and field hockey team had seven each. The women’s
volleyball team had six members of their team honored, and the women’s
cross country team had five The men’s and women’s soccer
had teams each had four honorees and men’s cross country had
three members on the MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Leading the selections from the football team, which posted a
4-6 record, were sophomores running back Tyler McCambridge
(Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and quarterback
Marc Braxmeier (Center Valley, PA/Allentown Central Catholic
HS). McCambridge rushed for 764 yards
and seven touchdowns, while Braxmeier completed
43 of 88 passes for a total of 570 yards and five touchdowns. Senior
wider receiver Shawn Martell (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic
HS) had 20 catches for 391 yards and two touchdowns, while
junior tight end Kris Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) had
27 catches for 270 yards and five touchdowns.
Also earning spots on the MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll from
the football squad were seniors defensive end Nick Feo (Hampton,
NJ/Voorhees HS), linebacker Anthony Gro (Schwenksville,
PA/The Hill School), defensive back Justin Klement
(Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), and running back Marc
Panepinto (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS); junior wide
receiver Alan Fatzinger (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS);
and sophomores defensive back Ryan Andrew (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery
HS), offensive linemen Justin Arifaj (Wind Gap,
PA/Pen Argyl HS), wide receiver Jared Henrie (Pennington,
NJ/Hopewell Valley HS), defensive tackle Robert
Kadel (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren HS), linebacker Kevin
McGorry (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS), kicker Brian
Reckenbeil (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS), and defensive
back Carl Robinson (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley HS).
Martell, McCambridge and Reckenbeil
were also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
Second Team.
The Moravian women’s tennis team has an overall record of
12-1 this year and has qualified for the 2007 NCAA Division III
National Championships in May. Leading the Greyhounds on the MASCAC
Fall Academic Honor Roll is junior Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg,
PA/Hamburg HS), who is 14-1 in singles action. Junior Jennel
Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) has a singles record of
11-6, while senior Margo Kokolus (Orefield, PA/Parkland
HS) has a doubles record of 6-10 with partner senior Courtney
Hall (Denver, PA/Cocalico HS).
Moravian’s other women’s tennis players on the MASCAC
Fall Academic Honor Roll were senior Kristin Smith (Kunkletown,
PA/Pleasant Valley HS), junior Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex,
NJ/Middlesex HS), and sophomore Dyana Swan (Branchburg,
NJ/Somerville HS).
The Greyhound field hockey team’s MASCAC Fall Academic Honor
Roll honorees were led by junior midfielder Beverly Beaver
(Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken HS), who made five defensive
saves during the season. Joining Beaver were the
following juniors; forward Jayme Baker (Center Valley, PA/Southern
Lehigh HS), who had four goals and three assists, midfielder
Jamie Hirner (North Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS),
and forward Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and
sophomores; midfielder Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean
Township HS), who had one goal and one assist, defender
Laura Boyd (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS), and
midfielder/defender Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount
Anthony HS).
The Greyhound volleyball team posted a 16-14 mark this past fall
and participated in the 2006 ECAC Division III Southern Championship
Tournament. The Greyhounds were led on the court by senior outside
hitter Kelly Bauer (Hellertown, PA/Notre Dame HS),
who had 389 kills, 34 service aces, 291 digs, and 28 blocks.
Senior setter Valerie Korsak (Coplay, PA/Whitehall HS) contributed
118 kills, 1124 assists, 26 service aces, 251 digs, and 25 blocks.
Also earning spots were senior defensive specialist Ashley
Hugo (Bath, PA/Northampton HS), junior defensive specialist
Elise Martin (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS), and junior
outside hitter Rachel Radocha (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS),
and sophomore outside hitter Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre
Dame HS) who had 299 kills, 30 service aces, and 222 digs.
Leading the women’s cross country honorees were led by sophomore
Kayla Teeling (Milford, NJ/Phillipsburg HS), who
placed second in the MAC Championships and 17th in the 2006 NCAA
Division III Mideast Regional. Senior Jennifer Connolly
(Weare, NH/Manchester West HS), who placed 76th in the
2006 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships and sophomores Naomie
Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS), Stephanie
Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS), and Kelly Williams
(Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS), who placed 22nd in the MAC
Championships, were also honored.
The Moravian men’s soccer team posted a 5-12-2 overall record.
Leading the Greyhounds on the MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll is
senior defender Peter Cunha (Milford, NJ/Immaculata HS),
who was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
First Team. Other players that made it to the MASCAC Fall Academic
Honor Roll were senior midfielder Brian Tarulli (Bear Creek,
PA /James Coughlin HS), junior defender Dan Scavone
(East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North HS), and sophomore
midfielder Daniel Todd (Perkiomenville, PA/Perkiomen Valley
HS).
The Moravian women’s soccer team posted a 7-9 overall mark
this season. Leading the team on the MASCAC Fall Academic Honor
Roll are seniors defender Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake,
NJ/Manasquan HS) and midfielder Alisha Davy (Oaklyn,
NJ/Haddon Township HS), who was also named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team. Also named
MASCAC Academic Honor Roll were junior midfielder Jill Newswanger
(Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove HS) and sophomore defender Alexandra
Frascella (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS).
The men’s cross country team was led by junior Timothy
Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS), who placed
67th in the 2006 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. Senior Anthony
Sarno (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS) and sophomore
John McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan HS)
were also named to the MASCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
