MORAVIAN’S KELLY APPLEGATE NAMED
COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Senior forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson
HS) of the Moravian College women’s basketball team
has been named the Commonwealth Conference Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week for her performance last week.
Applegate, who was also named the Commonwealth
Conference Player of the Week on November 27th, helped
Moravian post a 2-0 mark last week in Commonwealth Conference action
to clinch the team’s sixth straight Commonwealth Conference
Tournament appearance. Applegate had 17 points,
seven rebounds and three assists in a 64-50 victory at Lebanon Valley
College.
Applegate then lead the Greyhounds to a 66-59
win over top-ranked Messiah College to clinch a playoff berth. She
had 17 points and eight rebounds in the victory. During the contest,
Applegate became the sixth player in school history
to reach 1,400 career points and now has a total of 1,407. She is
also seventh all-time with 645 career rebounds while holding the
school records for free throws made with 440 and free throws attempted
with 572.
Moravian, which is 13-10 overall and 7-5 in Commonwealth Conference
action this season, will return to the court in a conference game
at Widener University on Tuesday, February 12th at 6:00 p.m. in
Chester.
