MORAVIAN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TO COMPETE AT NCAA MIDEAST REGIONALS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s cross country teams are preparing to compete at the 2007 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday, November 10th being hosted by Muhlenberg College on the cross country course at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus.

The women’s 6,000-meter race will begin at 1:15 p.m. followed by the men’s 8,000-meter race at 2:15 p.m.  For complete coverage of the meet, go to Muhlenberg’s regional meet website at http://www.muhlenberg.edu/sports/fall07/xcregional.html.

The Moravian women are coming off of a second place finish at the inaugural Landmark Conference Championships on October 27th under the direction of men's and women's head coach Welles Lobb.  The Greyhounds, who won ten Middle Atlantic Conference Championships from 1994 through 2003 and competed at the NCAA Division III National Championships all ten years with six top ten finished at the national meet and three NCAA Division III Mideast Regional titles, were selected to finish fifth in the Landmark Conference preseason coaches and sports information director’s poll.

Leading the women’s squad has been junior Kayla Teeling (Milford, NJ/Phillipsburg HS), pictured at top right, who returned from an injury to earn First Team Landmark All-Conference honors with a runner-up finish among the 70 runners on the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:35. Freshman Tara Chiarella (Hallstead, PA/Montrose Area HS), pictured at left, also earned Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades and was also named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year with a fourth place finish in 24:49.

Senior Katie Pulizzano (Allentown, PA/William Allen HS) was 15th overall in a time of 26:02 at the Landmark Conference Championships and missed all-conference honors by just four seconds while freshman Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS) placed 25th in a time of 27:15. Junior Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) rounded out the Moravian top five runners with a 29th place finish at the conference championships in a time of 27:36.

Also competing for the Greyhounds have been freshman Sarah Zigenfuss (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS), junior Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) and freshman Michelle Onori (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown HS).

The Greyhound men finished seventh at the Landmark Conference Championship meet led by junior Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley HS), pictured at right, who earned First Team Landmark All-Conference honors with a sixth place finish of 69 runners on the 8,000-meter course in a time of 28:35. Freshman Conner Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), pictured at bottom left, was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team with a 12th place finish in 28:59 while sophomore Steve Parisi (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) was 44th in 31:24 at the conference meet.

Sophomore Steve DeFazio (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) was 45th overall in a time of 31:26 at the Landmark Conference Championships while freshman Jesse Miller (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg HS) rounded out Moravian's top five at the conference meet with a 48th place finish in 31:50.

Also competing for the Greyhounds have been senior Khizer Tariq (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley HS), senior Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hills West HS), junior John McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan HS), junior Jacob Tazik (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS), sophomore Tim Betz (Havertown, PA/Haverford HS), sophomore Kevin Yarzab (Andover, NJ/Newton HS), freshman Joseph Reynolds (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and freshman Brian McCloskey (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS).
