MORAVIAN’S DEANNA MANGIERI NAMED LANDMARK CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Junior catcher Deanna Mangieri (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named the inaugural Landmark Conference Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Mangieri hit .385 last week as the sixth-ranked Greyhounds opened the 2008 season with a 1-3 record at the Beach Bash in Virginia Beach.  Mangieri collected five hits in 13 at-bats, including at least one in every game, and had a double, a runs scored and an RBI for Moravian.  She also had 26 putouts, one assist and one error while playing all 30 innings behind the plate.

Mangieri was 1-for-3 with an assist in a 3-1 victory over Methodist University.  She then was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice and 13 putouts in a 6-4 loss to Messiah College.  Mangieri went 1-for-3 with a run, a double and four putouts in a 3-1 loss to Rowan University, and she finished off the weekend with a 2-for-5 performance, an RBI, nine putouts and an error as Moravian lost to 11th-ranked Lynchburg College, 6-5 in nine innings.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 7th in a non-conference game versus King’s College at the 2008 Salisbury Seagull Invitational in Salisbury, Maryland.  Game time is set for 10:00 a.m.
