NINE GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Nine members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2007 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced Wednesday by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 84 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Landmark Conference rivals The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College and Susquehanna University.

Seniors Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken), juniors Laura Boyd (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS), Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS) and Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony HS), sophomore Damara Varney (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and freshmen Lizzette Arias (Arlington, VA/Wakefield HS), Maureen Helfers (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke HS) and Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 950 NCAA Division III players from 115 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post a 7-8 record including a 2-4 mark in the inaugural Landmark Conference. Spatz had four goals and six assists for 14 points while Garofalo had six goals and an assist for 13 points.  Santacross added one assist while Boyd made one defensive save this season.
