MORAVIAN’S OZZIE BROWN HONORED BY USTFCCCA FOR THIRD TIME IN CAREER

METAIRIE, LA --- Senior sprinter/jumper Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) of the Moravian College men’s outdoor track & field team has been honored as the 2008 Mideast Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Brown, who was named the Male Outstanding Performer of the Meet while leading Moravian to its first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship at the 2008 ECAC Championships last week after winning three individual titles and a relay and placing second in a fourth individual event and second relay.  Brown won the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.62 seconds, the 110-meter high-hurdles in 14.37 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 7.10 meters (23 feet, 3 ½ inches).  Brown was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 10.82 seconds.  Brown helped the 4x100-meter relay to a winning time of 41.72 seconds and Brown ran on the second place 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:19.25.

Brown, who was the 2007 USTFCCCA Male Track & Field Mideast Region Outdoor Athlete of the Year and the 2008 USTFCCCA Male Track & Field Mideast Region Indoor Athlete of the Year, was also named the Male Track Athlete of the Meet while leading the Greyhounds to the 2008 Landmark Conference Championship.  Brown captured the 100-meter dash in 10.73 seconds, the 200-meter dash in a Rocco Calvo Stadium record of 21.56 seconds and the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.49 seconds.  He also led the Greyhounds to victories in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays by running the anchor leg.  In the field events, Brown won the long jump at 7.26 meters (23 feet, ten inches). He was also second in the high jump clearing 1.93 meters (six feet, four inches) and third in the shot put at 12.41 meters (40 feet, 8 3/4 inches).

Brown will compete in the decathlon, the 110-meter high hurdles and the long jump at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships beginning on May 22nd at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  Brown enters the meet with the third best point total in the nation this season in the decathlon, 6,669 points, the nation’s fastest time of 14.27 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles and the fifth best distance in the long jump at 7.26 meters (23 feet, ten inches).  Brown won the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in the long jump.
