MORAVIAN’S REBECCA ANGSTADT & NATHANIEL TUSSEY SELECTED AS
LANDMARK CONFERENCE SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

MADISON, NJ --- Moravian College seniors Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) and Nathaniel Tussey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS) have been selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athletes for their respective spring sports of women’s tennis and men’s track & field.

A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the spring sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.

The other 2008 Landmark spring sport Senior Scholar Athletes were: Baseball: Robert Teneholz, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Men’s Lacrosse: Luke Burtnett, Susquehanna University; Women’s Lacrosse: Emily Blatter, Goucher College; Softball: Danielle McCann, Susquehanna University; Men’s Tennis: Jason Woods, Drew University; and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Sarah Burkhardt, Susquehanna University.

Angstadt was a key performer as Moravian claimed the first Landmark Conference women’s tennis championship. She was named a second-team All-Landmark Conference pick as she posted a singles record of 17-5 while playing sixth singles in 2008. She helped Moravian win two conference titles and earn the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance as a junior, and her career singles record is 39-9. Angstadt earned a spot on the Dean’s List each semester at Moravian and was an ESPN The Magazine first-team Academic All-American as a junior, and is eligible for the award as a senior after earning Academic All-District honors for the second time.  That award will be announced on Thursday. She earned her degree in mathematics and accounting and was also a member of several campus organizations at Moravian.  Angstadt was also chosen as the 2008 Moravian Senior Co-Female Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete

Tussey capped a career that ranks him as one of the top performers in the history of the Greyhound track and field program. He was a three-time All-American, with two of those honors coming in his senior season as he placed 5th at the NCAA Championships in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. He piled up an impressive seven first-place finishes in individual events at conference championships over the course of his career and qualified for the NCAA Championships five times. Tussey graduated with a degree in biology/pre-veterinary and was a 2008 Spring Landmark All-Academic honoree. He was also chosen as the 2008 Moravian Senior Male Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete.
