MORAVIAN’S JESSICA POSIMO & RACHEL RIGGS HONORED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Senior jumper/sprinter Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy HS) of the Moravian College women’s indoor track & field team has been named the Landmark Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week while sophomore jumper/sprinter Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) has been honored as the Field Athlete of the Week for their performances last week.

Posimo, pictured at right, and Riggs helped Moravian to a third place finish of ten schools in the NCAA Division II & III meet at the Thomson Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware.  Posimo also competed in the Muhlenberg Pentathlon last week. 

Posimo, who was the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week on January 21st, won the Muhlenberg Pentathlon with a school record total of 2,940 points to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Posimo then helped Moravian to a third place finish at the Thomson Invitational as the Greyhounds scored 92 points.  Posimo was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.55 seconds to earn eight points after Posimo qualified first in a school record, NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 9.10 seconds. Posimo also earned eight points with a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.47 meters (34 feet, 4 1/4 inches), and she earned another five points with a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters (four feet, nine inches).

Riggs, pictured at left, captured the long jump t the Thomson Invitational with a leap of 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches) and the triple jump in an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.51 meters (34 feet, 5 3/4 inches) to earn 20 points. Riggs earned another three points with a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.50 seconds.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, February 8th and 9th at the Cornell University Open in Ithaca, New York.
