MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TENNIS NAMED ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM;
THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

SKILLMAN, NJ --- The 2007-08 Moravian College women’s tennis team, which won the inaugural Landmark Conference title, has been named a 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the seventh consecutive year.

Three of the Greyhounds’ individual players, seniors Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS), pictured at right, and Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS) and junior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA, earning a varsity letter and being enrolled for at least two semesters.  A total of 1,843 student-athletes were honored.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).  All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA eligibility form and have competed in one or more matches are averaged into the cumulative grade point average for the current year (including fall 2007 and spring 2008). 

A total of 306 men’s and women’s teams from NCAA schools earned the ITA All-Academic Award, while 20 men’s and women’s programs from NAIA schools and ten junior colleges were honored with the largest number, 102 programs, coming from the NCAA Division I women’s programs.

Moravian was one of 66 NCAA Division III women’s teams to win the ITA All-Academic Team award.  Goucher College from the Landmark Conference was also honored. 

Angstadt posted a 17-5 overall singles record and a 6-0 slate in Landmark Conference action as she earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team. Hopper, pictured at left, had an overall singles record of 11-8 including a 4-2 conference record and was also named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team as a singles player.

Hopper teamed up with Swan, pictured at right, to record a 7-6 doubles record as the duo earned Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades while Swan had a 4-11 overall singles record.

Moravian begins its 2008-09 season on Saturday, September 6th as the Greyhounds host a four-team invitational at the Lehigh University Goodman Courts with Bryn Mawr College, Cabrini College at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
