FORMER GREYHOUND CHRISTINA SCHERWIN COMPETES AT 2008 OLYMPIC GAMES

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Former Moravian College track & field standout Christina Scherwin (Copenhagen, Denmark) competed in the preliminaries of the javelin at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China for her native Denmark on August 19th.

Scherwin, who won the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Division III national championship in the event while participating for the Greyhounds, placed 44th of 54 entrants with a season best throw of 53.95 meters (177 feet).

Scherwin was 29th in the javelin at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, while still a student at Moravian.  She was fourth at the 2005 World Championships and fifth at the 2006 European Championships.  Scherwin has a career best throw of 64.83 meters (212 feet, eight inches).

Scherwin left for Beijing on August 4th to participate in the Opening Ceremonies.  She then went to Marugame, Japan, training with the Danish and Finnish track teams.  Scherwin, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery ten months ago and had only thrown 53.61 meters (175 feet, ten inches) this year, headed back to Beijing on August 16th for one final practice before competition.
